Commercial production of REC TwinPeak 2 BLK2 Series begins

Due to its split junction box design, the REC TwinPeak 2 BLK2 will be able to maintain the power output even in shaded conditions.

Norway’s vertically integrated solar energy company REC is set to grab the limelight with its first full-black multicrystalline panel of up to 285 Wp of output.
After rolling out the REC TwinPeak 2 Series in January 2017, the company decided to upgrade the 60-cell multicrystalline module’s aesthetics, assembling together a black frame and black backsheet that resulted in its full-black variant.
Just like its precursor, the new model also employs a number of efficiency-boosting cell and module technologies, including PERC cells from larger wafers, five busbar cell interconnection and split junction boxes.
“In addition to reaching power levels that were once unimaginable on this platform, REC can now produce black multicrystalline cells for a truly full-black multicrystalline panel, resulting in a product with high power output, renowned REC quality and optimized aesthetics,” says Cemil Seber, VP, global marketing and product management at REC.
REC says that its TwinPeak 2 BLK2 has a maximum system rating of 1,000V and is 100% free from potential induced degradation (PID), avoiding power losses even in the harshest conditions.
Available globally, REC TwinPeak 2 BLK2 will seek to assert its position in residential markets in the U.S. and European countries such as Belgium, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, and the U.K., where panel aesthetics is highly valued.

Incorporating larger wafers makes it possible for the module of standard 60-cell configuration and dimensions to increase current production, while increased light capture is guaranteed by the PERC technology.
Internal resistance of the cells is managed by five busbars and additionally reduced by half-cut cell technology.
Earlier in March, REC announced that its global module shipment increased 9% year-on-year compared to 2015 exceeding 1.2 GW and with the new product in its assortment, the Norwegian solar manufacturer is positioned to further consolidate its sales.
