Storage is becoming more attractive in German power market

Storage is becoming more attractive in German power market

Dirk Uwe Sauer, Professor of storage system technologies at RWTH Aachen, speaks about the future of distributed storage in Germany.
Almost 50% of new residential PV system owners in Germany, Sauer claims, have decided to install a storage system under Germany’s support scheme for solar-plus-storage. Most of these homeowners were pushed to invest in a battery more to do something for climate protection than to earn money in the short term. Others are interested in new technologies, while others would like to safeguard themselves from increasing electricity costs, by becoming independent from buying electricity from the grid.
Furthermore, Sauer has spoken about utility-scale storage, its high complexity and numerous challenges.
