Chint’s project for solar factory in Brazil moves forward

The government of the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Norte announced that the solar module factory planned by the Chinese manufacturer Chint is moving forward. The government and the company signed a framework agreement for the project in early March.
The governor, Robinson Faria, said he is confident the project will be implemented after meeting with Chint’s representatives Jackie Xiang and Charles Zang last week.
Furthermore, Faria said Chint has confirmed it will committ BRL 112 million ($35.2 million) for the new manufacturing facility, and that this project would create around 1,300 direct and indirect jobs. The factory would serve Brazil and other markets in Latin America.
In Brazil, the financing for solar plants is often granted to projects that meet local content requirements.
Currently the largest module factory in Brazil is a 400 MW manufacturing facility of Chinese-Canadian solar producer Canadian Solar. Production at the factory began at the end of 2016.
