Argentine municipality of Nonogasta to welcome 42 MWdc solar plant

A large-scale, 42 MWdc solar PV plant is to be built in Nonogasta, a municipality of Argentine province Nueva Rioja, the local government announced yesterday.
The Nonogasta solar plant will be installed across 100 hectares and comprise an estimated 132,000 solar PV panels. The estimated investment required to bring the project to the commissioning stage is US$40 million, and it is expected that 150 jobs will be created during the plant’s construction.
This week, local governor Sergio Casas visited the proposed site, which is located some 7km from the heart of Nonogasta on Ruta Provincial 74a.
The plant will be developed by renewable energy company 360Energy. The firm’s general manager, Alejandro Lew, remarked during the governor’s visit that the project will be the first large-scale solar park in Argentina, and will mark “a new stage of renewable energy” for the country.
The EPC was awarded the project as part of the RenovAr Plan tender. 360Energy actually secured the development rights for seven large-scale solar farms under the first round of the tender, three of which include three parks in Argentina’s Catamarca region and a large project planned for the province of San Juan.
360Energy has signed a 20-year power contract with wholesale electricity market regulator CAMMESA, and all power generated onsite at Nonogasta will be sold to Argentina’s National Interconnected System.
According to Lew, initial preparation of the land and bill of materials has now been completed, and the main contractors for the plant’s development are already onsite.
