China: Trina, Singyes win 250 MW Top Runner solar project

China: Trina, Singyes win 250 MW Top Runner solar project

According to a statement released by China Singyes Solar Technologies, construction work will commence on the Tongchuan Photovoltaic Power Generation Technology Top-runner Base Project by the end of this September, while operations are expected to commence by next June 30. It will be located in Tongchuan,  Shaanxi province.
China introduced the Top Runner program in mid-2015, targeted chiefly at ground-mounted plants. Essentially, it is a guideline package for the industry to achieve higher standards for PV conversion efficiencies, decay ratios and many other of the chief specifications related to efficient PV plants.
At the end of last month, Taiwan-based solar technology analysts EnergyTrend reported that bidding for China’s 2017 Application Top Runner Program (3rd phase) had ended. Overall, the analysts calculated that mono-Si products comprised the lion’s share of projects, although bifacial products also exceeded 50%.
“Mono-Si PERC accounted for the majority (67%) of all the bid winning projects, including conventional mono-Si PERC, bifacial mono-Si PERC, and mono-Si PERC MWT,” said analyst Lions Shih.
At the start of the year, China’s National Energy Administration (NEA) published details of the Top Runner’s next stage goals. These stated that by the end of 2018, an additional 5 GW of solar capacity that meets the Application Top Runner Program standards should be connected to the grid.
Further, some 1.5 GW of solar capacity must be grid connected by June 30, 2019 – installed under the Technology Top Runner Program.
Currently, the program has not been affected by the Chinese Government’s recent decision to curtail its PV installations, although it has said it will review the program at a later date, taking into account installation volumes.
